A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after that period of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the last five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to create a final set.

He defended four early opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
